WHOOP Not Detecting Naps?

If you’re a WHOOP user, you know the device is designed to provide comprehensive insights into your recovery, sleep, and performance. It’s not only sleep; WHOOP has the ability to detect your naps as well. However, there is a common issue most users face: WHOOP does not detect naps.

Detecting naps on WHOOP is as important as detecting other activities. If you are currently struggling with this issue, we are here to solve it for you. All you have to do is keep reading the article till the end.

WHOOP Not Detecting Naps? [Causes and Fixes]

WHOOP relies on specific criteria, such as duration and body stillness, to identify naps. If these conditions aren’t met, the nap may not be logged on the WHOOP app. There can be more reasons as to why WHOOP isn’t detecting naps. Keep reading.

Nap Duration is Too Short

WHOOP only identifies sleeps or naps that are more than 24 minutes. If the break you took for the nap is less than 24 minutes, WHOOP does not count it as a nap or sleep. So, if this is the case, we recommend trying a longer nap next time around to check whether WHOOP detects your nap.

However, you can add it manually if the WHOOP Auto Detection fails to identify your nap. You can use the Activity Menu to log it manually. We will explain the exact process of how to add naps manually in the WHOOP app later in the article.

Strap Fit Issues

Not only for naps but for all your activities, the WHOOP strap has to be snugly fit onto your body. So, make sure the sensor is properly attached to your body.

The best place to wear WHOOP is on your wrist. It should sit flat against your skin, just above your wrist bone.

Suppose you are currently wearing the WHOOP in a different place on your body. Try wearing it on the wrist as a troubleshooting method. However, for optimal placement, you can opt for WHOOP Body garments if you find it difficult to wear the WHOOP on your wrist.

Insufficient Stillness

If you move during a nap, WHOOP will assume that you are awake. This confusion has the potential to WHOOP not counting naps. When you sleep or take a nap, the body usually remains still, and it is one criterion that WHOOP considers when detecting sleep activities

To prevent this from happening, make sure you are resting in a calm, stationary position to help improve WHOOP Auto Detection.

Connectivity Problems

Your WHOOP sensor has to be connected to the app in order to log your activities. If not, it will not communicate with your device to record your naps. The syncing has to be consistent and stable between the WHOOP 4.0 strap and your device.

To verify if this is the issue, check the Bluetooth and app connectivity first before blaming the WHOOP. In addition, make sure you regularly sync the WHOOP with your device to get the most updated reading on your WHOOP app.
